The Accountability Court hearing the liquefied natural gas (LNG) case on Thursday extended physical remand of former finance minister Miftah Ismail and former managing director Pakistan States Oil (PSO) Sheikh Imran-ul-Haq till September 26. Ismail and Haq were produced by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) before Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir on expiry of term of their remands. The NAB prosecutor requested the court to extend physical remand of the accused for another 14 days.

The investigation officer informed the court that he has shifted relevant record of the case from Karachi to Islamabad. He said he wants to further investigate the suspects in the light of the record. The investigation officer further said that 35 days physical remand of both the suspects has been completed. While objecting to the NAB's request, defense counsel Haider Waheed said that further extension in remand of his client is unjustified; therefore, the NAB plea should be rejected.

He further argued before the court that the NAB kept his client alone for 35 hours. He requested the court to order NAB to allow him to have a lunch with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. The court after hearing arguments of both the parties extended physical remand of both the accused till September 26.
